M2HSE Training - Your Guide to Success

Roles & Responsibilities

The Candidate (You)

You are going to seek accreditation for your skills and knowledge against occupational standards. You will take ownership of your own development and, along with your assessor and in line with national standards, agree methods of how your competence against those skills and knowledge will be assessed.

At the end of completing the units/elements of your qualification, and when they have been duly assessed and verified, you will be awarded a certificate saying that you have achieved your qualification and at which level.

If you are unable to complete the whole qualification, then a certificate of unit accreditation may be awarded.

You must ensure that any evidence you produce is your own work and that it is current, sufficient, reliable and valid. Please see our Policy on Malpractice and Maladministration, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI).

If a candidate is removed from a M2HSE Training qualification pathway due to plagiarism, malpractice or maladministration, M2HSE Training reserves the right to pass on this information in line with AB/Ofqual requirements.

The Assessor

This is who will measure your competence against the qualification requirements. They will discuss with you during induction and create an initial Individual Assessment Plan (IAP) on how you will take the award forward, then on subsequent assessments they will agree with you how your competence will be assessed using one or more of the agreed assessment methods.

Once you have met all the criteria for the unit/element they will then sign that part of the qualification as complete.

Your assessor is there to support and assist you throughout your qualification and is your first point of contact if you have any questions or issues regarding your qualification.

The Internal Quality Assurance Verifier (IQA)

This person acts as the link between the Assessment Centre and the Awarding Body.

They also ensure that the quality of the assessment is maintained and is standardised across all assessors linked to the centre.

They will assist both you and the assessor to ensure that all assessments are carried out fairly and reliably and will sample the assessment of your evidence to ensure that you have met the required standard.

The External Quality Assurance Verifier (EQA)

The awarding body appoints this person, and they visit the centre at regular intervals to ensure that all processes and procedures are maintained to meet the criteria of standards for the Awarding Body and OfQual. You may or may not see this person, but you need to be aware that they are a vital link in the process. It could be that when they visit the centre, they want to interview you to ensure that the quality of the assessment is being maintained.

Types of Evidence

There are several methods for assessing evidence that will support your claim to competence, which will be discussed and agreed with you during induction:

Observation

Evidence gained using this technique should be cross referenced to the performance criteria and signed by the assessor who will observe you.

Personal Statements

Accounts of competence to be supported by witness testimony and/or documentary evidence to ensure reliability/authenticity.

Work Products

Including audio/video footage, photos, meeting notes, emails, reports, and work produced under supervision.

Witness Testimony

From relevant witnesses confirming actions taken by candidates. Witnesses need to be competent in the particular qualification/area.

Questions

Written or oral questions may be asked to demonstrate underpinning knowledge where appropriate.

Professional Discussion

Used when the candidate wishes to talk to the assessor about activities carried out.

All or any of these methods can be agreed with your assessor to evidence competence against the national standards of your particular qualification. These methods will be agreed and recorded on your assessment plan.

Candidate Portfolio Requirements

Our Awarding Body requires that all candidate portfolios are assessed and internally quality assured. Your assessor is responsible for mandatory documents. If any of the documents are missing, the portfolio may be rejected:

1. Induction Form

A copy of the form used by the centre when inducting the candidate onto their qualification.

2. Candidate Identification, Induction and English Language Proficiency

Our awarding body requires this to be completed by the assessor and candidate. The purpose is to ensure that photographic ID has been presented, an induction has been carried out, and the candidate has literacy and English language proficiency relevant to the course content before enrolment. This will be done in accordance with GDPR and M2HSE TRAINING Policy on Data Protection.

3. Statement of Authenticity

The original copy of the candidate's signed statement endorsed by the Assessor and IQA, that the evidence presented is all their own work. This is usually signed towards the end of the assessment process.

4. Accredited Prior Learning (APL) – if applicable

APL can be used when a candidate has already achieved a qualification which is applicable to the qualification they are working towards. The candidate needs to show the assessor the original certificate, a copy must be taken and the assessor must sign and date this stating 'copy of original'. A qualification should normally only be used if less than 2 years old to ensure currency.

These documents must be retained by M2HSE TRAINING. These procedures will be monitored by EQA Verifiers and may be subject to EQA validation.
